I am a Wurundjeri girl, and my country is the land across Melbourne in Victoria, and out to Healsville. I have two totems, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle and the crow, which I was born with, as they are from my family.
For Waranara over the past few days I have been working with the art students, particularly the girls who have been plaiting emu feathers into twine. I have enjoyed having the time to help out and teach different traditions, specifically women’s business. We don’t get much time just to be together and share culture, so I have enjoyed Waranara.
I loved sitting with the Uncles and hearing their stories, I liked the story of the rainbow serpent, and the story of the birds and how they got their calls and their colours.
I am trying to learn more of my language and I hope to be doing more art when I leave school.
